In 1965, KSA became KCA, the name change coinciding with the shift of Kingston from part of Surrey Local Education Authority to its own new metropolitan borough. The name change was intended to denote the major expansion that Kingston had undergone since the 1950s, and signal its position as one of the leading art colleges in the country.
