Liberal Studies was the the successor to complementary studies, and offered art and design students additional academic courses in support of their main areas of study. The department was established with Peter Kneebone as Head, with tutors including Don Pavey and Jo Ledger. Later, Paul Knabenshue became Head of Liberal Studies. Art history, philosophy, film, poetry and music were some of the varied subjects taught.
